Revised Station Sort for 1995 December 9th-10th Asteroid (85) Io Occultation The latest weather forecast is still calling for mostly cloudy skies along the path east of the Mississippi River. Observers there may get some lucky breaks in the clouds, but they can not be counted on for coverage of this occultation. So I have removed them from the sort below. I have also removed the European stations, which are far to the north without direct e- mail contact and unknown (but probably bitterly cold, if not cloudy) weather. The twilight in Arizona will make it difficult for anyone at other than at relatively large observatories there to observe, so most of them have also been removed. Scattered clouds are expected in Missouri and Iowa, with some cirrus farther west, so observers there have a good, if not perfect, chance, and are included in the scan, although some of them may be clouded out as well. After you receive this, send future e-mail to me at dunham@nssdca.gsfc.nasa.gov, since I will not have access to this account again until Monday. Delta have very inexpensive air fares from Baltimore to Kansas City, so I hope to leave home by about 7:30 am Sat. to try to observe the event myself. However, a predicted snowstorm may prevent my departure, and if not, the weather forecast around Kansas City could deteriorate, so it is not certain that I will make the trip. But after 7:30 am tomorrow, you should copy messages to jim@anomalies.com, since Jim Hart can serve as a message center up to the time of this event (his phone is 415-593- 7332), and that and his Web site at URL http://www.anomalies.com can provide more up-to-date information than the IOTA occultation line at 301-474-4722, if I leave town. Since I plan to go to Kansas City, it would also be useful to copy messages to robinson@solar.sky.net (Walt Robinson, Bonner Springs, KS, phone 913-422-1280), since he might have some limited capacity to serve as a local message center for this event and I will try to keep in touch with him while I'm there. I haven't received any new stations to add to the station sort, and few e-mail messages about the event, presumably because of bad weather currently over a large part of the path, or pessimistic forecast for the eastern observers. The reduced station sort is below; western recipients should try to notify others in their areas who do not get e-mail directly from me (track numbers without P or *), and attempts should especially be made to try to contact those at track numbers with other symbols given. Especially, IOTA members receiving this where the sky might be clear should try to telephone other IOTA members in their region who do not have e-mail, but who are listed in the 1993 IOTA roster.
